If it doesn't match, make it!

Two birds with one stone!
Since finishing our basement our son's toys have dramatically filled the floor space, and we needed a solution. So we were searching for a solution to clear the clutter and have some extra seating near the bar as well. My husband did the searching for the ottomans and he found these at Target.com and they were a great price. They were on sale and because we have a Red card they were an extra 20% off. Could not go wrong, right?! The space we had to fill was between two pillars which was a little over six feet and each ottoman was three feet wide so we purchased two.

3 square problems~
So now the problem was those hideous pillows that came with our amazing couch (you can see one in the background). I wanted to cover them with fabric that would either pair well with the ottomans or find the exact fabric. I searched on several sites for a good pairing fabric and at one point I thought I hit the jackpot on Hancockfabric.com finding the exact fabric because they had fabric that matched other ottomans that are sold at Target.com but that was a dead end. However, with a little persistence and time on my hands I finally found the fabric on Fabric.com! I was so excited I could have burst!

Here is the pic of the Ottoman in their space in the basement.

Style~
I knew that I wanted to make an envelope pillow cover so they could easily be removed for washing. With two kids, a cat and dog things are bound to get dirty! I knew the general idea of how to cut the fabric to cover them but I didn't know how much extra fabric for stitching. I then searched online for a tutorial on to find specifics of How-to, and this is the site I used: http://theblueeyeddove.com/2014/06/18/diy-envelope-throw-pillow-covers/#more-1572
Then I got to work! There were two problem I faced while working on these throw pillow covers. The first was keeping my son entertained while I worked, and the second was that I do not own a yard stick for nice long straight cuts. I improvised and ended up cutting a cardboard box to be a long guide. Once the pieces were cut it was as simple as sewing them together.

End Result~
Here is a photo of two of the three pillows. Don't they look great?!?
If we aren't adding the ottoman cost ($140.00), the fabric for this project was a mere $36.93 for 1.5 yards. And as far as time frame, they took me maybe 2 hours from start to finish to make. There is one more addition that I added to the room for practical reasons and that was the lime green serving tray that is on the ottoman. We needed a solid surface for beverages so I found this little $20.00 addition that helps keep our drinks in the upright position!

I hope you liked my first post ~ Stay tuned for the next DIY project!

1st Blog Ever!

Hello Blog World! I've been wanting to document my DIY life for quite some time but wasn't sure how I exactly wanted to do so. I finally made a decision, so here I am.

Introductions! Introductions!
Well I am a wife and a mommy~ I have been married for almost 4 years to a pretty great guy! I have two human babies and two fur babies. My son is a little over two years old and my daughter is just shy of three months. My oldest fur baby is an eight year old cat named Phoenix and my youngest fur baby is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi named Stevie. All are joys to my heart~

History repeats itself!
I was a graphic designer for a little over five years, lost my job and then went back to school for a bachelors. My bachelors is in human development and I currently am a case manager helping people who've lost their job find new employment. Once upon a time my ultimate goal was to become an art therapist however, I dont' think that is the route I now want to go. My passion is projects and design! I love doing all sorts of DIY projects. These projects have a wide range of skill. Some require no skill at all just the initiative to do it, and some require research with the DIY-ers rule of thumb "measure twice, cut once".

Back to the Future!
All of my posts will give an in depth description of my project along with some photos, with the occasional video. There are many projects that have already been completed. For these I may not have photos of every step by step but will try and describe as best as I can.
For now, I will be posting my current project what I like to call "the mobile height chart", but you can call it whatever you want. I anticipate completing this project by the weekend and will have pics of the projects progress.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you all enjoy my little blog and maybe even get inspired!
